Would you like to help women who dream of becoming mothers? You can! Just like thousands of other pregnant women, you can collect and donate your urine over a few weeks to Moeders voor Moeders (Mothers for Mothers). A small act that could be the gift of hope for women facing fertility challenges. The collected urine is used to extract the hCG hormone, a valuable ingredient for fertility medications. Will you be the next unsung heroine in someone else’s life?
You can donate urine from week 6 to week 16 of your pregnancy. During this period, your urine contains the highest levels of the hCG hormone. You can sign up from the start of your pregnancy until week 11.
Within a few days of signing up, a representative from Moeders voor Moeders will contact you to schedule a phone interview. During this conversation, we will explain exactly how you can participate and answer any questions you may have.
We will also review the eligibility criteria with you. It is important that you meet these conditions because your urine will be used to produce medications. Health authorities, who monitor the quality of medicines, have set regulations, which means not all urine can be used for pharmaceutical purposes.
Donating urine is very easy. You will receive everything you need to collect and store your urine. Each day, you will use a new bottle for collection, which helps prevent unpleasant odours and ensures the hCG hormone remains at high quality. Of course, the bottles are thoroughly cleaned before they are given to you. After using the collection jug, you can simply rinse it with water. Do not use any cleaning products, as they can break down the hormone.
Each week, we will collect the bottles from you. This is done discreetly, using an unmarked vehicle. You don’t need to be home, as you can leave the crates in a designated spot. You can also provide an alternative pick-up address. This way, no one will know you're pregnant if you're not ready to share the news.
In Utrecht and Amsterdam*, you may not always be able to leave the bottles outside. For this reason, bottles can be picked up at your door every Tuesday or Wednesday between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Collection from an alternative address is always possible.
If you'd like to donate your urine but cannot leave the bottles outside during the day, we will work with you to find the best solution.
* In Amsterdam-Zuidoost (postcodes 1100–1108), crates are always swapped during the day.
All the urine collected by Moeders voor Moeders is transported to the Aspen factory in Boxtel. Here, the hCG hormone is extracted and processed into a usable raw material for fertility medications. Aspen does not manufacture these medications itself but supplies the hCG to two pharmaceutical companies, each of which makes its own fertility medication. These medications are available worldwide, including in the Netherlands. We have agreements with these two companies to ensure the hCG is used exclusively for human fertility medications. This ensures that the hCG is not used for other purposes, such as in products for the veterinary industry.
